A magistrates' court in England and Wales, is
a local law court that mainly deals with
minor criminal cases. A magistrates' court
consists of between two and seven lay
justices of the peace (who are advised on the
law by a clerk to the justices), or a single
paid lawyer called a stipendiary magistrate.
